Erica Racchetti, PhD
Erica Racchetti received her Master degree in Environmental Sciences and she defended her PhD in Ecology at the University of Parma (March 09, 2010) discussing a thesis on the N load sources and transformations at the watershed level with an approach from macro to micro spatial scale. The soil system N budget of Oglio River basin indicated that an important quota of N surplus is retain in the basin, probably due to role of denitrification and groundwater processes. At meso scale, denitrification rates were investigated in riverine wetlands and the hydrological connectivity of perifluvial wetlands with rivers results crucial to maintain wetland biogeochemical functions such as N removal. At the micro scale, denitrification process was measured in the rhizosphere of the submerged macrophyte V. spiralis, that stimulate the process by elevated ROL. Plant-bacteria competition for N along a DIN gradient in the river water was investigated. At present she is a researcher assistant and she studies denitrification process in lotic systems and coordinates a project on the definition of the minimum vital flow in the Oglio River. She is familiar to measure sedimentary processes and denitrification rates in lentic and lotic freshwater ecosystems, impacted by human activities. |
