Monica Pinardi, PhD
Monica finished her PhD in Ecology in 2009. Her research project was focused on the relationship between hydrology and river metabolism in altered systems. She investigated how river damming affects gas (O2, CO2) and nutrients (N, P) cycles in homogeneous segments of the Mincio River (Northern Italy). She demonstrated that when the water velocity of an eutrophic river segment is reduced by the presence of a dam the system can switch turning from net heterotrophic to net autotrophic. She delivered experience in open channel methodology to measure mass balance of oxygen, carbon and nutrients in lotic environments. From 2011 to 2013 she coordinated a project with the aim to establish the minimal vital flow in the Mincio River. Recently she was involved in the european project FP-7 “INFORM: improve monitoring and forecasting of ecological status of European inland waters by combining Future Earth Observation data and Models”. Research activity concern the integration of limnological and biogeochemical tecniques with remote sensing ones with the aim to study primary producers in inland waters. See also: cnr_irea |
